The finalization of Tina’s doctorate also marks the beginning of EYEVIDO. Starting from the idea of easy, flexible, and cheap eye-tracking studies we quickly created a first prototype. With the help of experienced developers we are realizing the concept of being able to create and evaluate eye-tracking studies in the browser.
In addition to pure software development we were searching for appropriate hardware early on. After an in depth testing phase of sticky.ad, a webcam-based eye-tracking solution, we realized that we need to make use of real eyetrackers to accomplish our high quality goals. Therefore, we tested eyetrackers of various companies like TheEyeTribe, SMI, myGaze, and Tobii. Our requirements for the hardware were robust and precise tracking of eye movements while being available in high quantity. Finally only two models met our requirements. Firstly Tracker EyeX by Tobii and secondly a model by myGaze which was not on the market, yet. Based on the outstanding quality and short delivery time we decided to go with Tobii EyeX. As of this day 24 EyeXs are part of our collection of eyetrackers, such that we have reached the critical milestone of initial hardware picking. Now, we are starting to create our crowd-tester panels. Even without a panel we can already execute projects with up to twenty subjects.
The following video gives a first impression of our software working with Tobii EyeX.
